Goals: Don’t Throw in the Towel Just Yet

Goals, Goal SettingHappy Mother’s Day!  I hope that you had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday and were able to spend quality time with your family.

Today, I’ll be very quick.  I had a relaxing weekend and it’s taking me a while to get back into action.  I know you probably think that I’ve beaten this subject to death, but it’s time talk goals.  I hope that you haven’t given up on them yet.  Come on you can do it. (more…)

Don’t Let Your Setback Discourage You

Setback, Organized, UnorganizedWhat would you do if you found yourself in a setback situation?  I wish I could tell you it wouldn’t happen but it will happen.  Are you ready?  Will you give up entirely or will you have enough will power to get back on track?  I hope that your answer is that you’ll get back on track.

There are so many situations that will come your way that can just throw you off track.  How do I know?  It happens to me too.  Sometimes it’s sports, sometimes it’s work or a holiday.  Whatever it is it can disrupt the systems that you have in place.  It’s up to you to realize you are in a setback situation, stop the setback in its track and get back on course. Why Is It Important to Be Punctual?

How to be Punctual, Punctual, Being Punctual, On TimeDo you know someone who is….Well let’s just say, not so punctual and constantly late to everything? I mean EVERYTHING! I do. And it seems to be a running joke when we plan things. If we were to meet for something, there would be a real meeting time and then an adjusted meeting time just for them. It’s funny and we joke about it a lot but there are people who deal with not being punctual and it’s a huge problem in their lives. Punctuality or lack of punctuality can affect our personal lives as well as our work lives.

I know of someone who is consistently late to meetings in their workplace. They would either be late to the meeting or not show up at all.   There was even a time when their employee was sitting a restaurant waiting for them to conduct their annual review. Guess who didn’t show up? Can you imagine being the employee sitting at a restaurant and your boss doesn’t show for your annual review and doesn’t even bother to call? Who do you think had to pay the bill? How do you think this made the employee feel? I’m sure he felt as if he wasn’t really important in the eyes of his employer. (more…)

When I first started out I wasn’t sure if blogging was even for me. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get any readers. But you know, if my post can impact just one person then that’s good enough for me. (more…)

Your Quick Guide to Meal Planning

Meal Planning tips; grocery lists; Eat out less

I’ve been talking to parents and one of the most common complaints has to do with dinner.  As parents we have very busy schedules and for some reason we don’t put as much effort into dinner as we should.  I can understand why.  We get up early in the morning to go to work and come home after a long day and still have to help the kids with homework and prepare a well-balanced meal before we take the kids to their sports activities.  Does this sound familiar?  At the end of the day what is the easiest thing to slack on?  Dinner!  And for the parents that I’ve talked to, this is what’s being done.  Fast food and frozen meals are quick and easy.  We are now settling for convenience instead of what’s healthy for our families.  Don’t worry.  I fall in this situation far too often than I care to admit.  But there is a way out.

Are you ready for the key to having home-cooked meals on the table EVERY night?  It’s very simple.  Preparation and planning.  I will show you how to plan for your meals in advance without having to fall back on take out. (more…)

An Unusable Laundry Room Turned to Functional

If you are new to my blog you might not know, but my family and I moved into our newly built home in November 2012.  And you know, with a new home comes a long lisLaundry room in new home, functional laundry room, small laundry room, organized laudry roomt of projects!  I’m very excited about the projects though.  This is our chance to put a personal stamp on our home and make it exactly what we want.  Yes, we had a chance to upgrade this and upgrade that when designing our home, but we decided to splurge more on the structural upgrades and upgrades that would be too difficult to do afterwards.

Fast forward to today.  I absolutely love this house and can’t wait to complete all of the projects.  We are currently taking on projects one room at a time.  So that means while some rooms are being furnished and fixed up, other rooms that are at the bottom of the list are really being neglected.  I noticed the other day that I’m not putting forth much of an effort to keep these rooms functional since I know that it will be a while before I get to make it what I really want. Taking Your Organizing Skills To The Workplace: Managing Projects and Tasks

Work! Yes, that four letter word. Some people are fortunate and are able to stay at home with their kids but there are people like me who have to go in to work EVERYDAY. I know. So why not make the best of it. While at work, let’s How to manage projects, how to manage tasks, task lists, project listsput some of those organizing ideas that you’ve learned at home in play. Ok, I’m not talking about laundry or recipe ideas. I’m talking about how you manage your household projects and tasks.  Let’s take for example your household bills. I hope by now you’ve put a system in place to keep track of your bills coming in and payments going out. If you haven’t, and need a little help to get started, leave a message in the comments below and I’ll put a post together just for you. How cool is that. Anyways, you can receive your bills in many forms. Some bills are sent through the mail, email or you can print them off from the company’s website. However you receive the bills, it is your responsibility to make sure that you have them and pay them on time. This is the same concept, depending on what your job is, at work. You receive incoming tasks via email, voice message, mail and word of mouth. It is your responsibility to manage the tasks received and respond to them in a timely manner. (more…)

My Emails Are Out of Control!

Emails have been a real sore subject for me lately.  I haven’t checked a few of my personal accounts in so long.  The ones that I do check I’ve neglected to get rid of emails that I no longer need.  So I have a confession.  My emails have spiraled out of control and it is beyond embarrassinEmails, out of control emails, managing emails, organizing emailsg.  Even my kids make comments about it when they see the number of unread emails on the icon in my phone.  Did I say embarrassing?

Now I’m able to keep my work emails organized in folders.  I know which emails I need to take action, which emails I need a response and so on.  But this is so not the case with my personal emails.  Why?  The only thing I can think of is I don’t find that my personal emails are as important.  If I quickly glance through my emails I’ll find sales ads from stores that I frequent, reminders of upcoming events that I know I’ll never attend, grocery stories reminding of their sales.  I’m pretty sure that I gave my email to all of the companies that are sending me messages but these are messages that I’m really not using.  They are just cluttering my email.  I have to sort through all of my emails to find a real email from a real human being.  It’s not fun.  But I need to do something about it.  Now! Planning a Fun-Filled Family Valentine’s Day

Earlier this week I talked about doing a Valentine’s Day setup for the family.Valentine's Day, Valentine's Day planning, Valentine's Day Gifts, Valentine's Day gift ideas, Valentine's Day candy, Valentine's Day flowers  This is something that I started a few years ago and I’m glad I did.  The kids loved it so much and look forward to it each year.  It may not be a diamond or expensive watch but it’s something that the family can take part in together and will create lasting memories.  In our family we don’t put emphasis on expensive gifts but we value the time that we spend with each other.  I think that is more important.

Each year I’ll plan a setup in the dining room.  It will include all kinds of goodies:  cookies, candy, cupcakes, cake, flowers and more.  Anything I can think of will go into setup.  I’ll have baskets for each of us personalized with things we like.  The night before Valentines’ Day, I’ll put everything out in the dining room.  When the kids wake the next morning they are so excited to see what I’ve done.  It’s like Christmas all over again.
